MASHED POTATOES
MashedPotatoes.org is a community project founded in 2005 by Seattle artist and entrepreneur Matt Jones. Our work centers on providing large quantities of potatoes to Northwest Harvest.
The name “Mashed Potatoes” comes from Jones’s belief that potatoes are the king of comfort food — “the top of the food chain of cool.”
In 2024 we celebrated 20 years of delivering mass spuds to the King 5 Team Harvest food drive. Since our early days, Mashed Potatoes has grown steadily, delivering nearly 2 million pounds of potatoes to Northwest Harvest.
Our efforts have been featured on King 5 News, KOMO News, NWCN News, and in Seattle PI, Seattle Magazine, The Seattle Weekly, Seattle Metropolitan Magazine, Real Change News, and many more publications over the years.

A huge part of our success comes from our main spud donor, F.C. Bloxon Co., whose generous, long-standing support has made it possible for us to send semis full of potatoes year after year. Their partnership is at the heart of what we do.
As a grassroots project powered entirely by donors, our mission is to feed those in need. Our only currency is the humble potato. We ensure that 100% of our food donations go directly to domestic hunger-relief organizations, and all cash donations are directed straight to Northwest Harvest.​​

Special segment - 90,000 lbs of spuds nearly doubled the 2006 Team Harvest Food Drive's numbers, bringing the total to 203,000 lbs of food.
Special segment - Six 50,000 lb loads of spuds delivered directly to the Northwest Harvest warehouse. 300,000 lbs total.
Special segment - King 5 shares the Passion for Mashing Gallery Party and follows Matt Jones as he delivers 50,000 of spuds to the NW Harvest warehouse the following week.
The First Load - 50,000 lbs of spuds delivered to Team Harvest Food Drive 2005. This is the first large load of food ever delivered to the food drive. This iconic load of spuds doubled the pounds of food for the entire food drive that year.
